In this session, attendees will engage in professional learning that will provide a deeper understanding of culturally-responsive practices in relation to their role and relationships with colleagues, students and families.
Learning objectives will include 1)self-reflective activities that will highlight the impact of personal and group biases, 2) definitions of terms related to culturally-responsive practices, 3) strategies to consider and apply towards a shift in culture.
Participants will build their proficiency and understanding of various systems used across the district; including but not limited to: MUNIS, Aspen, My Flex Learning etc. This will also be an opportunity for admins to collaborate. This class is designed as both an introduction to the School Finance System and School Finance Software (MUNIS) and also as a refresher course for those of whom already have some understanding of these topics. Students will complete this course with an understanding of how to read and understand their accounts; how to understand the purchasing laws that govern their procurements requirements; and how use MUNIS to look up their accounts and past transactions, pull audit trails for their school/department, complete purchasing requisitions, look up vendors, and more.
Time allowing, the course may also involve a basic overview of how to use Microsoft Excel to make the most of your downloaded reports.
In this session, participants will learn about the laws and regulations governing student record keeping, access, and responding to requests as well as Newton Public Schools' policies and procedures. In addition, there will be a general overview of legal rights and processes with respect to student registration and family access to student records and school-related information and communications. There will be time built in to discuss a particular question or scenario faced by employees and where to find additional information and assistance when faced with a challenging or new situation.
