Target Audience: Teachers PK-5, Specialists, Para Professionals, Special Educators

This session is designed to provide classroom teachers, specialists, and support staff both proactive and responsive strategies for dealing with challenging behaviors in the school setting.  The Safety Care Curriculum chapters 1-3 will provide the framework for these strategies.  This training will cover prevention and de-escalation strategies for managing behavioral crises and interacting with students who are dysregulated. This training does not cover any physical management strategies. The goal is to provide a better understanding of how to support students when they are showing signs of escalation and more importantly proactive strategies for preventing students from reaching the point of escalation in the classroom. In addition, the hope is to better inform general education teachers and support staff about the systems and procedures that regulate how the special education and safety teams respond when called for support.
