Target Audience: Teachers PK-5, Para Professionals, Special Educators

Considering the shifts that have been made from Balanced Literacy to using a Science of Reading Approach, I would like to help educators think and create new center activities that are aligned with these new teaching principles. The session would begin with a brief (unless participants need additional information) overview of the science of reading principles and tenants. The session would then move into what kind of activities kids should be engaging in while the teacher is taking small skill based groups. There will be examples of activities to share and time for teachers to make plans or activities to bring back to their classrooms. There will be online templates as options for starting points.

By the end of the session teachers will:
- understand the basics of the science of reading.
- take home activities they can use in their classroom.
- have time to work alone or with others to create new materials.
- see examples of center options that support science of reading teaching approaches.
- have access to templates that they can modify on their own during the session or at a later time.
