What makes a place home, and why might someone choose to leave that place for a foreign country? In this session you’ll use artifacts and documents from the 19th and 20th centuries to put yourself in the shoes a person deciding whether to stay in their home country or emigrate to Newton. We’ll share strategies for teaching about immigration, discuss ideas for using primary sources in your instruction, and uncover the diversity of Newton’s early immigrant residents. You’ll leave the program with new ideas, a stronger understanding of Newton’s immigrant history, and resources to enhance your practice.
