The Portrait of the Graduate is more than a fad or a recent educational trend. In our rapidly changing world, schools across the globe are exploring and adopting Portraits of a Graduate as a way to help students prepare for success in communities and careers of the future. This session will provide an explanation of the role of a Portrait of a Graduate, how it complements the curriculum that currently exists in our schools, and what it looks like in action.

Participants will leave the session with:
-a shared understanding of the Portrait of a Graduate, the implications for educators at each level
-an understanding of the impact of the Portrait of a Graduate on students’ learning and personal narrative
-the emergence of the Mastery Transcript Consortium and other competency-based frameworks that support the work with Portrait of a Graduate
-excitement for this important shift in teaching and learning.

The session will include sharing of resources to return to after the workshop, opportunities for conversation and collaboration, protocols to explore the Portrait of a Graduate, and a chance to explore Mastery Learning Records as a model of assessment and credentialing.
