About me
I have been teaching ELL in Newton for 24 years. I have been creating my own materials to support classroom teachers in helping their non-English speaking learners being engaged in their classroom. However, recently I came to a conclusion that it is not the materials, but the well established routines that allow students to become engaged in the academic process while not understanding the language of instruction. In addition, I have identified several habits of mind that would help classroom teachers plan for engaging their newcomers with the mainstream curriculum. Not accidentally, these habits of mind help plan for other cohorts of students such as students with disabilities.
